The God - Pratchett

I have just discovered this great web site on Terry Pratchett it's bloody brilliant!!! Especially if when reading his stuff you find a quote or something that sounds vaguely familiar and it has all of these annotations for the various different references in his many works.

Check it out!!!

Book addict goes into overdrive!!!!

I don't know if you've heard of bookcrossing.com but I've been having a ball with it for a while now. The concept of registering and releasing books for people to read is one that is strangely addictive, especially for someone who is an avid book collector like myself. I have one hell of a time trying to cull my books when there is too many on my bookshelves, so giving them away, and not even knowing that the person who gets them will like/love them, is a real heartbreaker, but at the same time a huge thrill. I have released a few books now but have yet to get anyone to journal them.

I have been slowly registering all my books and this will take some time as I have shelves upon shelves of them!!! LOL

However patience will prevail! I have already had a couple of people ask for some of the ones I have registered but I am a little troubled by the fact that they expected me to send them the books without receiving anything in return, and we're talking international postage here!!!!

Oh well, It could be worse...they could be asking for one of my kids!!!!! LOL

A couple of bookcrossing elves

Couple of bookcrossing elves doing their thing at a release site.

Anyway, time for bed and all that stuff!!!!

Lucky twice in a row

Having had one of my dearest friends miss out on that loverly evening at the movies, I decided to have another go at winning some tickets for the second screening of the Daft Punk movie. Well would you know my luck!!! I won a second lot of tickets for my friend. So she went with a friend of hers and had a ball, I believe.

What more can you ask for??? Three people getting into the same movie for nothing!!!!

Slacking off!!!!

Well I figured that it was time I pulled my finger our and did something here.

What's happening in our lives at the moment????

Well to start with, I have been given a promotion at work and this is proving to be harder than originally expected. But fun too. We have a new worker called Cat, she is a loverly person to work with and we're all having fun.

Eilish is happy at school and will quite happily spend all her time there. and breandan has made a good friend at Child care called Finn (Finny). The two of them are inseparable and are always hiding under tables and in boxes.

As for me, well the love life is still slow (non-existant LOL)but I finally got my new computer!!!!

Well we had better get ready to go, we have a sleep over to get to.

Catch ya round as a rissole

A quick hello!

Well, life is looking up from that last hospital visit. Breandan has been given the all clear and there is really no sign of the bite that sent him there in the first place. only now he wakes up screaming in the night because he thinks a spider is biting him.

Eilish is doing well at school and as for me ;-D that's for me to know and you to read later.

Cheerio

Home at last!!!

Breandan and I have just spent 2 interesting days in hospital with the lad with the most amazing ability to pick up things that every one else simply wouldn't get. Breandan was bitten, by what we think was a spider, on his finger and within a couple of hours he had developed a blister down the entire length of his finger. By the next evening it had gotten worse so we quickly went to the Women's and Children's Hospital, to the emergency room. 5 hours later Breandan was admitted with preparations underway for him to undergo surgery on his finger.

Best scenario had it only being a clean up and that's all. Worst had a full skin graft on his finger. The doctor was hesitant to suggest which he thought likely. But seemed to be indicating the worst. That could also be the paranoid mother reading things into to it. As it was when he asked if I had any questions all I asked was, with chin a-tremble, if I could call my Mum.

Fortunately the following morning showed that the blister had popped and the infection wasn't bad enough to require surgery but they still wanted to keep him for a couple of days.

I wasn't too adverse to this as the "danger" had past and the doctor was rather cute.

This next day followed as much the same as any day spent by any parent stuck in a hospital with a clingy child. I was so grateful to see Mum and Dad arrive so that I could go home and shower and all that.

The next morning the rather cute doctor came again and announced that we could go home that very day. HURRAY!!!

Now Breandan has a bandage around his finger and is pretty much back to normal with his sister shoving too much medicine down his throat in an effort to "Help Mum."

After last week, this one is going to be quite ordinary in comparison!

Til next time!

Work and renos

What a frantic couple of days these last few days have been!!!

Two days ago I got word from my work that a painter is coming in and will be painting the entire library! Can you imagine it? All of the books and shelves need to be taken down and the books have to be taken off the shelves, plus all the posters and other stuff and the twenty year old blutac has to be removed and that stuff don't come off with a jack hammer!!!

I have rung everyone I can think of and tried to get everyone possible to come and help but there is only 4 of us that can come. Heaven forbid that we should need any REAL work done!

Anyway to cheer me up I have decided that I need to take a cake and not just any old cake but Luscious, rich, chocolate laden, delicious, Chocolate mud cake!!! Of course that means that I have to do some baking....shame that!....and that's all a girl needs is an excuse to make the most calorie laden cake she can think of.

I found some good sites though, All Recipes had a great range of good looking cakes, iChef had a great Amaretto Cheesecake recipe, Nestle Baking had lots of choc cake recipes, but lets face it they are one of the biggest chocolate suppliers! And this one looks great too!

Well that's all for me tonight, I have an appointment with the kitchen!

ta, ta!

Back online

Well I managed to salvage enough of my computer to get back online, but its no good for doing any heavy work unfortunately.

So, what's been happening????

Well my dear brother Joe was on the radio the other morning. It was very interesting to have a member of your family talking over the alarm clock especially as we don't tend to speak on the phone as such. If you want to hear the interview or read the transcript the details are in his blog. The kids just happened to be in bed with me when the alarm went off, and couldn't understand why it was so important to be quiet and listen to the radio. In fact all through out the interview the two little buggas were jumping around and arguing and it wasn't until the end where Joe said hello to everyone, and especially to the two brats, that they sat up and paid attention. And that was only because he said their names, and of course by then it was too late, it was all over!!!

Things are picking up at work, we are having the library painted for the first time in years. I found out that we moved to this current location in 79 so it's been a while! It's going to be fun as we can really only do it in the holidays, which is the next two weeks. One good thing about it though, is that now we HAVE to do a stocktake. The books are coming off the shelves anyway so its stupid to not take advantage of the situation.

Actually, if anyone reading this knows of any good places to get information on html tutorials, I am looking to make a new page for the library this is our current one, which is only temp, but I don't know how to put together frames for web sites and I need to learn very quickly! If you can recommend a site or two it would be very, very helpful!

Hopefully my comments thingy is working so you can leave it there if you like.

Finally I have been making up for nearly a month without a comp by doing a bit of surfing and I have found some interesting places to visit. 600 seconds is a blog with a difference. Every day (I think) a topic is put up and people have exactly 10 mins to write something using what was left there. Some of the ones I have read so far are quite well written or just damn funny. Have a look and figure it our for yourself!

Another is Book Kitten, a librarians blog. She recommends various books, talks about some weird shit and actually has some interesting moments. I think its the buying 6 or more copies of the same book (not at the same time) because she just had to read it there and then. Besides they were cheap! Yeh I can see me doing that. There is also a rant further down about a child's picture book and she has put up a scan of the particular page she referring to on another site. I had to laugh! I WANT THAT BOOK!!! bugga giving it to the kids. Who ever said that picture books were always for kids!

Next is the kooky Spam Poetry blog. Now this is a fascinating idea and one that I'm sure would be hard to make work. But she done it! I must admit this one's not new to me but still fun anyway.

Now a list of blogs wouldn't be complete without The Lost Blogs Home, this guy finds interesting and not so interesting blogs and records them. Some of these have to be seen to be believed. Have fun looking though.

Anyway, its way past this girls bedtime so I'll say goodnight and will catch you lot later.

Ciao

Are we having fun yet???

No!!! Well why not?

We're having fun! Today Mum and I went for a drive with the kids up into Adelaide hills to Uraidla and Lobethal Markets followed by a quick stop over at the local apple farm for some fresh apples. Yum!

The saga of the computer continues, I was able to fix the old one for a while until finances allowed me to buy me a new one only the old one fell through long before the new one was even a possibility. So we are waiting for the generosity of a friend to come through to allow me to borrow his until such a time was my being flush enough to actually do something about it. Ho hum

Eilish has just had her first Sports Day at school and it was a unparalleled success! Well that may be just my opinion but then I was only there for 10 minutes. Unfortunately work and sports day just didn't meet in the middle, more towards the edge actually. Anyway she got 2 ribbons, one she proudly told me was for coming last although it actually says fourth.

Breandan is his usual cheerful self despite being sick, loudly demanding and various other 3 yr old stuff.

My brother Joseph has an interesting treatise about the turkey elections on his blog Australian Abroad. Is very interesting and not all that different to ours by the sounds. Well aside from masses of parties and the propaganda.

Nanna and Grandpop have been staying at Mum's place and driving everyone barmy. Nah not as bad as that but similar. Nanna is in hospital with a knee replacement and Grandpop's driving Mum nuts with his "Habits" :-P

The rain is really coming down here, the day started with a strong wind and high temperatures and a dust cloud hanging over the city which was really obvious the higher we got into the hills. and just after lunch the change started and now its pouring down. Looks like we'll be begging a lift home tonight.

Catch ya again!

The day after THAT day

Well what a disappointing Valentines Day!!! Not one single card, rose, kiss.... yeh whatever! Let me guess... you have to give them to get them? well I knew there was something wrong with the plan.

First day back at TAFE was this week and guess what happened the day before. Monday morning in the middle of checking my mail my computer died. Yes, it went to the great black hole in the sky where all good computers go. Hopefully we will be up and running again soon and it is all thanks to the help of some good friends who have helped me in various ways. Thanks to Paul, Liz, and a couple others. I look forward to having my baby back!

I went to class on Tuesday, fully expecting to be bored out of my brains...and I was. but it wasn't as bad as it could have been. As I was able to RCC the whole semester. WOOHOO!!!! I dont have to sit through all that crap and waffle from the lecturer! Downside of it is that I lose my education payments cos 2-4 classes a sem. is not enough to quailify for payments.

Lunch is about to start so I shall leave you now until next time!!!

Time flies and all that...

Good Lord!!! Its nearly a month since last I last posted and looking at the time I'm not going to get much of one this time either.

School has started and Eilish is enjoying her new teacher and classmates. Breandan is alternatively devastated and elated at being back in child care. As for me, I'm back at work and enjoying it. TAFE doesn't start for me for another week. But I'm not looking forward to it as I'm back with the lecturer that I had last year and I hate her teaching methods. She is a nice person but I cant stand her classes.

Post party recovery????

Well, we are finally recovering from the New Year Christmas thing and I admit the thought of not doing anything for the next 3 weeks is a most delicious thing!

We spent Christmas at my Grandparents house in Ceduna. It would have to be one of the best Christmases we've had in a long time. Unfortunately the whole family couldn't be there but we still had a good time stuffing ourselves full of good food, good wine, and the better part of a bottle of Gin. Marga was a laugh on the night of Christmas Eve with a couple glasses of wine and then a couple of gin under her belt. She was waving to all the cars that went past and wishing them all a happy new year!

Christmas Day had the unwrapping of presents with people looking like the cat had dragged them out of bed. Paper all over the lounge room and lots of squeals from the kids as they got more and more excited with each new present. Lunch was a heady mix of roast pork, chicken and lots of over yummy foods. Accompanied, of course, by a luscious bottle of wine (Brown Brothers). Every body feasted so much that come Tea time the was really no desire to eat.

Boxing day was wonderfully slow. The flesh eaters very quickly got underway with creating the perfect Oysters Kilpatrick. With a few raw ones sneakily eaten by those opening them. Those who like their seafood a little less slimy devoured a whole container of prawns. It was a quiet day after the indulgence of the day before.

We also spent some time out on my uncles farm. After a traditional slap up of snags and chops on the barbie, the Kids (read Myself, my sister Anna, brother Liam, cousins Adam and Paul, and my kids Eilish and Breandan) all went to Port Sinclare to go swimming. It was a ball!!! Breandan couldn't swim so he had to cling to my back as I swam out to the landing off the jetty and up the ladder. We then watched Adam. Paul, and Anna jumping off the landing and splashing everywhere. Liam spotted a seal that swam under the jetty and along the bay. A perfect day at the beach followed by the obligatory icecream at the roadhouse in Penong.

When we arrived back at the farm only Richard and Sue were left of the adults and they proceeded to show us around the farm feeding the cows, showing the kids sheep in the landrover and then driving all over the farm like a couple of maniacs. Damn! It was good! Richard then showed the kids the tractors and took them for a ride in one with the two kids taking turns steering. I think that this is one visit that they will not forget in a hurry!!!

I took lots of pictures and hope to have them up on the site soon.
